How To Break A Hex or Curse – 6 Traditional Methods

curse

I often receive emails from readers believing that they’ve been hexed or cursed. In most cases, I think people are just experiencing some bad luck. But in case you really do think that you’re cursed, I’ll share some things that you can do to help break a curse or hex.

How do you break a hex or curse? Different cultures have all sorts of different ways to break curses. You might create a decoy, use herbs, pray, or use your own magic to either break the curse or return it back to the sender.

In this article, I’ll explain what curses and hexes are. We’ll discuss if there is any difference between them, and how to break them. Plus what to do if you’ve tried everything, but still feel like you’re cursed.

What Is A Hex or Curse?

Feeling that you’ve been cursed or hexed can be pretty subjective. Unless someone specifically comes out and tells you that they’ve cursed you, it’s hard to know for sure that it’s happened to you.

You might suspect that you’ve been hexed if you know someone who practices magic has become upset at you, and you feel they might want to get back at you.

Usually feeling like you’ve been cursed will start as just something that you could write off as bad luck. It could be that your refrigerator breaks, your car breaks down on the way to work, a family member gets sick, or any number of other things.

Normally you’ll discount it at first, but it can start to seem more and more like you’ve been cursed as these bad incidents start to add up. At some point a string of bad luck can seem so bad that it seems like it can’t be coincidence, and a curse seems like the only explanation for your predicament.

Is There A Difference Between a Curse and a Hex?

The terms curse and hex tend to describe the same thing, so either one can apply in your case. It’s often just a case of what tradition or religion you belong to and what word is used.

However, a hex is sometimes seen as something more short-term or with more limited impact. A curse is seen as something more major that you’ll be stuck with for years, your entire life, or can even be passed down through generations.

So while both curses and hexes are magic spells used to mess up someone’s life, the duration and severity of them may tell you whether you should call it a hex or a curse.

6 Ways To Break A Curse

People from all different cultures have felt like they’ve been dealing with hexes and curses for hundreds or thousands of years. So there is no shortage of folk tales and suggestions for breaking them. Here are a few of the more popular ones.

Create a Decoy

Some people believe that you can create a decoy to take your place and transfer a curse onto it. It might be something as simple as an egg. Or it might be more complicated, like a doll with your hair or other personal effects, sometimes called a poppet.

Once you’ve created a decoy and transferred the curse onto it, you can destroy it by burning it, smashing it, or just leaving it somewhere to rot.

Bury It

Some people might opt to trap their curse in a bottle and bury it in the ground.

This is a pretty simple process. All you’ll need is some string and any kind of jar or bottle.

Concentrate on your feeling of being cursed, and slowly wrap the string around the neck of the jar or bottle, and repeat the following:

Any curse that has been placed onto me
I return deep into the earth
For each knot that I tie in the string, take my bad luck and make it good

Once this is done, dig a hole in your yard or somewhere that the bottle won’t be disturbed and bury it.

You can leave the jar buried in the ground indefinitely. Or if you prefer, you can dig it up after seven days, smash it, and carefully discard the broken glass.

Use A Mirror Spell

This spell will only work if you know the person that cursed you.

Take a picture of them and print it out. Nowadays it’s easy to get a photo of someone from Facebook or Instagram. If you can’t get a photo, you can just write their name down on a piece of paper. But a photo will work better.

Now place the photo into a box with mirrors placed on all sides. With any luck, it should reflect the curse back onto them and away from you.

Use Your Christian Beliefs

Even Christians may still find themselves cursed sometimes. If you find yourself in this situation and don’t want to use the occult to rid yourself of a curse, you can do it using your own belief system.

God says in the Bible that he will curse those that curse you. It’s written in several passages including these ones:

Deut. 30:7 – And the Lord thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them that hate thee, which persecuted thee.

Genesis 12:3 – And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

So to get rid of your curse, all you need to do is pray. Try something like this:

In the name of Jesus, I break any curses or curses that are cast upon me and my family. I remove the influence of sorcery, witchcraft, psychic powers, or any other occult influences that have been placed on me. I disconnect myself from any evil spirits, demons, or other negative spiritual forces that are currently having an influence over me.

I ask my Heavenly Father to remove these negative forces from my life and return any curses or hexes back to their senders, back to ten generations on both sides of my family. Forgive me father for any sins or transgressions or involvement in the occult, either by myself or my ancestors.

In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Use The Healing Power of Herbs

Hyssop, sage and rue are particularly well-known for their uses of breaking magic curses in traditional medicine and magic. As is salt and frankincense.

You can use herbs a number of different ways.

You can create a purifying bath using these herbs and bathe in it. This is said to wash away any curses. For particularly strong curses, you may want to repeat it several times.

You can create a satchel of herbs and wear them on a necklace to provide protection and remove the curse from yourself. This creates a sort of amulet or talisman.

Or you can burn the herbs as a form of incense. White sage specifically is used for smudging rituals to cleanse a person or area. Allow the smoke to flow over your body, or take it around your home to allow the smoke to reach the corners of each room. Just be careful when working with an open flame not to burn yourself or start a fire.

Try A Natural Water Source

If you don’t want to try a herbal bath, you may want to try to tap into the natural healing power of water by visiting a natural water source near you. This can be a river, ocean, or lake. Or even something as small as a creek, as long as it has moving water. It will work best if you can submerge your whole body in the water and attempt to allow the water to carry the curse away. But even just dipping your feet into the water and focusing on healing may help.

How Long Will It Take To Know If The Curse Is Broken?

In many cases, you may feel the curse or hex has been lifted immediately after performing one of the suggestions from above. Other times, you might not notice a difference right away.

Generally if you still feel like you’re hexed or curse after a full moon cycle (28 days) has passed, then it’s time to try again, or try something new.

After the curse is broken, you should cleanse yourself to remove any lingering bad energy from yourself and your house. You might also want to look into enchantments or spells to protect yourself that you can put around you and your home as well, to prevent something similar happening again.

What If The Curse Just Won’t Go Away?

If you feel like you’ve tried everything and still feel like you’re cursed, perhaps it’s time to call in an expert. Find a local psychic, healer, or other person well-versed in the occult who lives in your area and reach out for help. Normally they will charge a fee for their services, especially if it’s their full-time job. Be sure to look for reviews online if possible and find someone that people seem to like and trust, who delivers results.

If after you’ve tried everything and still feel cursed, you might consider the fact that perhaps you weren’t ever cursed in the first place! Nowadays it’s quite rare to be cursed, unless you happen to anger a very powerful witch. It’s normal that sometimes people go through a string of bad luck, so don’t automatically jump to the assumption that it’s a hex or curse.

Remember the power that our thinking has! If you think negative things, you could attract negative energies into your life. So try to think positive and not obsess about things if your life is going through a rough patch. Sometimes people can inadvertently curse themselves by spending too much time stressing out. Stop giving bad things in your life your energy and attention, and they should start to dissipate.

Conclusion

Nowadays it’s quite uncommon for people to throw around hexes and curses. So try to think if there is a rational explanation for things that are happening in your life, or if perhaps you’re just going through a string of bad luck.

If you’re convinced that you’re cursed, you can try some of the things above. Use magic herbs, spells, or other tools that I’ve discussed. If you still can’t seem to get a hex or curse to go away, it might be time to contact someone with more experience.
